TITLE: 140th New York Infantry Drummer Boys Veterans Regimental 5th Corps Badge and History.

DESCRIPTION:
This great Civil War veterans badge is in the shape of the Hard Fighting 5th Corps. The badge is stamped "Co. F 140th N.Y. Vol. Inf. J.J. Walter war 1861-5". John J. Walter enlisted at Rochester, N.Y. in Co. F of the 140th New York Vol. Infantry on Sept. 13th, 1862 at the age of 18 as a Drummer Boy. The archive record shows John present for duty until July of 1864 when he was on duty at the Divisional Hospital and stayed there until mustering out with the unit near Alexandria Va. in June of 1865. The 140th NY Infantry along with the 5th Corps. were in the thick of it during the Gettysburg Battle. Five pages of archival history accompany the badge. The badge is a veterans medal which would have been purchased at a reunion. Veterans badges in the style of a corps badge with the veterans name are quite desirable. One from such a hard fighting history as the 140th New York Infantry is very rare. Then put in the mix that the soldier was the Co. F Drummer Boy and wow! The badge is made from a light weight metal. The attachment pin on the reverse is in good condition.

CONDITION: Condition is Very Good, great age patina - solid.

DIMENSIONS:
The badge measures 1 3/8" wide x 1 3/4" tall.

PRICE:    $575.00 SOLD
